At INSIGHT Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling, the goal is to help individuals and families navigate life's challenges, especially those challenges created by substance abuse, grief and loss, and trauma.
My name is Shellie Anderson and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Substance Use Disorder Counselor (LSUDC). As an individual who lives a life in recovery from the use of substances, I became passionate about trying to help others whose lives have been affected by the use of substances, whether that be the substance user themselves or family members whose lives have been affected by their loved one's use of substances. Understanding the "why" behind substance use is a powerful and necessary step toward healing. Trauma, grief, and loss can shape behaviors in ways people may not immediately recognize. My approach includes guiding individuals toward self-awareness and resolution using a myriad of different therapeutic modalities.
I offer comprehensive substance abuse assessments with clinical recommendations. These assessments are designed to provide a detailed evaluation of an individual's substance use patterns and related health issues. Through a combination of interviews, questionnaires, and clinical tools, I aim to understand the extent of substance use and its impact on daily life. Based on the findings, I provide tailored clinical recommendations to help individuals make informed decisions about their treatment options. This approach not only addresses immediate concerns but also supports long-term recovery and overall well-being.
Professional substance abuse counseling services are designed to help individuals navigate the path to recovery by addressing the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of addiction. My approach combines evidence-based practices, compassionate care, and individualized treatment plans to meet the unique needs of each client.
Trauma counseling services can help you overcome the effects of traumatic events. I use evidence-based techniques, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy and ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) to help you heal from the psychological impact of trauma, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I provide a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your experiences and develop strategies to move forward.
According to Dr. Alan Wolfelt “Companioning your fellow human beings in grief is not about assessing, analyzing, fixing, or resolving another’s grief. Instead, it is about being totally present to the mourner—even being a temporary guardian of their soul.” Using Dr. Wolfelt's Six Needs of Mourning and Tenants of Companioning the Bereaved, I walk alongside individuals and families as they experience life losses.
I began my own journey with the use of Harmonic Light Therapy earlier this year and I was immediately convinced of the efficacy of including this type of therapy along with traditional therapeutic modalities. The body only shifts into its natural resources for healing when it is free from stress. Harmonic lights pulse each light wavelength at specific harmonic frequencies to signal the nervous system to shift from the sympathetic response of “fight or flight” to the relaxed, parasympathetic response in which the body rests, digests, and heals. Harmonic light therapy can be used as a stand alone therapy or in conjunction with traditional therapy sessions.
Acudetox involves a simple, standardized five-point auricular acupuncture treatment. The National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) protocol was developed to help with behavioral health issues such as stress, insomnia, depression, anxiety, trauma, or addiction using five points on each ear:
Sympathetic: used for relieving tension; promotes relaxation, balances sympathetic nervous system.
Shen Men: used for calming and relaxation; alleviates pain, calms the mind and relieves anxiety, depression, insomnia and restlessness; increases the ability to love self and others
Kidney: stimulates hormonal functions, influences happiness and relieves fear.
Liver: used to detoxify, as well as to relax and relieve anger and frustration; aids in clear thinking and decision making; relieves frustration, depression and anger.
Lung: used to help respiration and detoxification; aids in the regulation of grief/sadness; improves self-respect and integrity; reminds the client of connection with their spiritual self.
Acudetox sessions can be used alone or in conjunction with traditional therapy sessions.
